grow your life, change your world

"What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us."

A.W. Tozer said that, a man who studied and preached and wrote a lot about God. A man who knew God, personally, conversationally.

During the summer of 2009, Pastor Bill Lepley is teaching us in a series of messages called, "Sizing up God." He is looking at God, looking at how God wants us to see him.

Why is that important?

Because we all have pictures of God, snapshots on our refrigerator, in our wallet (or even on our dart board). These pictures are formed from our experiences (sometimes) and from reading the Bible (sometimes), but also from what other people have told us, what we've assumed, what we've assembled from watching TV, and even what we've just made up. After we make those pictures, we live as if they are true, as if they reflect who God is.

That doesn't work very well. It doesn't work any better arriving at a picture of what you are like without ever talking to you or considering what you have said about yourself.

So we'll look at what God says about himself.
