On Easter Sunday, Pastor Bill talked about all the ways life comes unraveled. He talked about how Jesus wants to weave unraveled lives back together. It's a great idea.
What we know, however, is that to talk about that hope without providing some help is pretty irresponsible on our part. So here are some places to look for additional help with specific life challenges.
Books
Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud, Dr. John Townsend / Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. A boundary is a personal property line that marks those things for which we are responsible. In other words, boundaries define who we are and who we are not. Boundaries impact all areas of our lives: Physical boundaries help us determine who may touch us, mental boundaries give us the freedom to have our own thoughts, emotional boundaries help us to deal with our own emotions and spiritual boundaries help us to distinguish God's will from our own.
A Long Obedience in the Same Direction: Discipleship in an Instant Society by Eugene H. Peterson / As a society, we are no less obsessed with the immediate than when Eugene Peterson first wrote this Christian classic. If anything, email and the Internet may have intensified our quest for the quick fix. But Peterson's time-tested prescription for discipleship remains the same--a long obedience in the same direction. Peterson finds encouragement for modern pilgrims as we learn to grow in worship, service, joy, work, happiness, humility, community and blessing.
